BBMP will pull down the banners and cutouts that have come up at Chickpet, Chamarajpet and nearby areas as part of the birthday celebrations of former MLA R.V. Devaraj.

Despite a ban on the display of hoardings, buntings and banners, these areas are dotted with huge cutouts of the former MLA.

Display of such birthday greetings amounts to violation of BBMP advertisement bye-laws and attract a penalty. BBMP additional commissioner (South) K.R. Ramakrishna said the civic agency does not grant permission to display such advertisements.

But followers of political leaders have been displaying such materials across the city. Even these cutouts have been put up by his followers without obtaining permission from the BBMP, he said.

“Illegal hoardings displayed at Chickpet and Chamarajpet will be pulled down on Tuesday night. However, penalty cannot be levied on Mr Devaraj as the advertisements have been displayed by his followers. If the advertisements acknowledge the sponsors at the bottom they will be penalised,” he said.

A few days ago, BJP MLA Hemachandrasagar had also displayed advertisements across the city, said sources in BBMP. But, they were brought down. Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa had stated that scores of hoardings around Vidhan Soudha on occasions like birthdays of leaders, arrival of dignitaries have been spoiling the aesthetics of Bengaluru. He also urged the people and all political leaders to refrain from displaying such hoardings, said sources in BBMP.
