10 things the CM must do

10 things the CM must do
Citizens Present Him An Agenda To Tackle Terrorism

1 Tough terror laws sorely needed as security agencies need legislation to back them up 2 Increase police personnel so that there are enough cops to handle the growing population spread over the huge geographical area 3 Set up a National Security Guard base in Bangalore to reduce the reaction time to attacks 4 Impart better training to police so that they are prepared to handle any contingency and this will be useful at all times 5 Upgrade weapons of security agencies as they’re dealing with terrorists who have access to sophisticated arms and ammunition 6 Provide incentives to security personnel to motivate them to work with dedication with
the assurance that their families are cared for 7 Guard entrances and exits of Bangalore to ensure that ultras do not slip in and out with impunity 8 Step up surveillance of transit points like bus and railway stations and airports to capture terrorists 9 Air & sea vigilance takes on significance after the Mumbai attacks when terrorists took the sea route to make their way into the city 10 Keep tabs on illegal immigrants as sometimes they are the support system for terrorists
TIMES VIEW
We don’t need further evidence that after the dastardly Mumbai attack, it is the citizens who are more outraged than some of our political leaders. The huge response by readers to our call for suggestions to the CM on tackling terror shows the urgency with which we need to act. It’s shocking to see leaders mouth impassive words of comfort, or dole out oft-repeated promises or, worse, seek security for themselves first. The PM has asked the state police to be on high alert. Surely, this is time for alarm. We must overhaul our approach to policing. The enemy is dangerously sophisticated. Our security system may be outgunned if our administration does not heed these suggestions on priority. The Times of India, along with the citizens, is keeping track.
