School kids still in state of shock

School kids still in state of shock
DH News Service, Bangalore:
After being trapped in their school buses for five to seven hours, students from schools in Bangalore North seem to be in a state of deep shock. Many children in the age group of five to seven refused to attend school on Tuesday.

“Children can’t be made victims of politics,” said a parent, Sandeep Kotecha. Sandeep is one of the hundreds of parents whose children were on school buses for long hours on Monday. His children reached home at 9:30 pm on Monday.

To the credit of teachers, they made the best of a bad situation. With 30 to 40 kids inside the bus on edge, they tried to calm things.

With the help of the older ones, they bought food from nearby stores. Some schools retained children till late in the night waiting for the chaos to ease. One teacher admitted that she was helpless as children were hungry and had no access to toilets, especially when they wanted to answer the call of nature.
“Parents kept calling frantically to enquire about the children. But even the mobile phones were out of charge answering calls,” said the teacher.

Outraged by the attitude of political parties, some parents and school managements are planning to meet the chief minister to urge him to prevent such incidents. A public interest litigation is also on the cards.
