Indiranagar to be rid of its woes

Bangalore: Here is some good news for residents of Indiranagar. If the BBMP is to be believed, there will soon be efficient garbage collection and pothole-free roads in the area.
Members of 22 resident welfare associations met BBMP’s additional commissioner (east) S Puttaswamy, chief health officer (east) Mala Ramachandran, chief engineer, chief revenue officer and chief horticulture officer on Wednesday to discuss their civic problems.
The grievances varied from stray dogs to blocked storm water drains. The maximum number of complaints were against inefficient garbage collection. Residents complained that in some parts, waste is collected only once a fortnight.
S C Burman, chief coordinator of the Resident Welfare Associations of Indiranagar, said: “Most problems are around Double Road and 100 Feet Road. Lack of adequate street lights in some parts is a concern. The Thippasandrato-Domlur storm water drain is completely clogged.”
Puttaswamy said the 120 potholes pointed out by the residents will be filled immediately. “The C V Raman Nagar constituency has planned a budget of around Rs 19 crore for improving civic amenities. If approved, all roads can be developed properly. We have been facing a lot of problems with garbage contractors recently. They are not regular. We will replace them within the next seven days,” he said. Work will be reviewed in three months and a similar meeting will be held with the residents to check the status.
