BANGALORE: For the past few days, Bangalore has been witnessing hot afternoons, but low temperatures during night and early morning. In short, city residents are beginning to feel the chilly weather already, though winter hasn’t set in as yet.
This is all because of the cyclone over the Bay of Bengal that has crossed the coastal region and entered interior Karnataka.
It has led to a fall in temperature in the city, claims the meteorological department.
The prevailing temperature is around 29 to 30 degree Celsius during day time and about 14.2 degree Celsius in the morning and evening, considered below normal at this point in time. The variation in temperature has been caused by the winds blowing from the northern direction. “Clear skies with absence of clouds during the day has led the earth to emit long wave radiations (11 microns) which has, in turn, led to the rapid fall in temperature, especially in the morning and evening,” said B Puttanna, meteorologist at the city meteorological department.
When the city receives rainfall with formation of clouds, there will be an increase in morning and evening temperature.
The present variation in temperature is not because of pollution, he added.
Analysing previous years’ weather reports, it was found that the lowest temperature recorded for the year 2007 was 16.7 degree Celsius. With temperature down to 14 degree Celsius during the north-east monsoon season, when winter has not even set in, Bangaloreans wonder whether winter will be colder than usual.
“It was only by the end of November that we felt so cold in previous years.
But this year, October-end itself has forced us to take out our woolens,” says Muniraju, a 68 year-old resident of Jayanagar.
