Bangalore: In a bid to speed up various civil works related to storm-water drains in the new areas of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the State Government has given exemption to the civic authority to inviting tenders as per the provisions of the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurement Act.

In an order issued in this regard, the Urban Development Department on Friday allowed the BBMP to take up 65 civil works estimated to cost Rs. 32 crore related to Hebbal, Koramangala and Challaghatta valleys based on the Scheduled Rate fixed by the Public Works Department (PWD) instead of inviting tenders.

Government officials said that it was brought to the notice of the Chief Minister when he visited the rain-affected areas of the city recently that there was delay in commencing reconstruction of collapsed retaining walls of storm-water drains, widening, construction, reconstruction and removing silt from drains and other related works as tenders had not been finalised as per the Act.

The BBMP, the officials said, was asked to send to a list of works that were required to take up urgently, to the Government.
