A busy road and broken footpaths have proved to be a deadly combination for residents of Koramangala. The footpaths on Koramangala Main Road are literally falling apart, making life hell for pedestrians, many of whom have injured themselves while walking on the road.

Residents say there could be more mishaps due to the rush on the road during the festive season. They say the footpaths could even cause a fatal accident.

“People already have a hard time walking on the footpaths here because vendors occupy so much space. The broken footpaths have made the situation worse,” said N.D. Veeranna Gowda, member and office bearer, Koramangala Residents’ Welfare Association.

The area is usually crowded, but the area is packed at this time of the year because a Durga Puja is held here and people flock to Forum Mall during the festival period.

“We always find it diffi cult to walk on the pavements here, but during the festival season it is near impossible,” said Mr Gowda. He said the footpaths need to be repaired at the earliest to prevent a fatal accident. “If the pavements are broken, people will have to walk on the busy road,” he added.

Residents of the area are looking for an early solution to the problem. They have complained to the civic authorities including BBMP. When Deccan Chronicle spoke to BBMP officials, they said work will soon be taken up on the footpaths.

“The Karnataka Municipal Reforms Project has taken up the work, so the pavements will soon be repaired,” said a BBMP engineer.
