Snag delays underpass

Snag delays underpass

Bangalore: Workers and auto drivers can be seen idling around the place. Even though most of the work on this magic box is complete, it is yet to be thrown open to traffic.
The underpass at Cunningham Road-Sankey Road junction is one of seven magic box underpasses being built by BBMP along Sankey Road, up to Hebbal, to decongest traffic for a smooth ride to Bengaluru International Airport.
The civic agency has fixed a technical flaw that was delaying the opening of this underpass. BBMP chief engineer (major roads) K S Krishna Reddy said there was a snag in the design of a drainage line running beneath it. “We drilled a horizontal, underground drainage system. But there was a problem that led to water not being drained out as desired,’’ Reddy said. Most of the work is now complete and it will be opened to traffic in a couple of weeks.
Similar magic boxes at BDA junction and and Cauvery theatre junction are already open. Work on the underpass at CBI junction is almost complete.

The new underpass at Cunningham Road-Sankey Road serves as the venue for a makeshift tea stall while it awaits completion
