RT Nagar may have several former ministers and other VIPs living in it, but this has not made in any difference to its ambience... Broken pavements, numerous potholes, cables lying above ground on the roads and dirty gutters are found all around the locality.

The RT Nagar main road is unpaved and broken while the road next to Syndicate Bank, one of the most crowded in the area, has numerous potholes.

The drains nearby are left open as the authorities blissfully look the other way. The broken footpaths are moreover occupied by vendors leaving no space for pedestrians to walk. So people tend to use the roads rather than the footpaths.

Thick cables have been lying on the road opposite RT Nagar post office for the last two months.

So also on RT Nagar main road from the RT Nagar police station to the 100 feet road. These cables are half inside the ground and half above making it almost impossible for commuters to drive here, while pedestrians are forced to play hop, skip and jump to avoid them.

If this was not bad enough, work on the stormwater drain behind Syndicate Bank has been pending for over a month.

Here another sight meets a visitor — half cleaned gutters with the work on them left pending for months together.

Go around some more and you will see streetlights that don't work and open drains which unwary pedestrians have fallen into many times and been injured. This is true particularly of an open drain on RT Nagar main road.which could be dangerous to children.

“During peak hours, especially in the evenings and late at night people fail to see the open drain and often fall into it. But the authorities couldn’t be bothered,” says a resident of RT Nagar, Vinod S. Kinger.
