Bangalore: With the aim of reducing power consumption, officials of the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) met with owners of malls in the city on Saturday.

Tushar Girinath, Managing Director of BESCOM, told The Hindu that the mall owners decided to take steps to reduce their power consumption by at least 20 to 25 per cent.

“They agreed to cut down power utilisation on the ostentatious illumination and other similar steps to reduce consumption. We will be addressing a letter to them and requesting those visiting the malls to understand and cooperate,” he said.

Mr. Girinath also said that BESCOM would be displaying posters and distributing pamphlets at the malls urging citizens to reduce their power consumption.

“These measures will be in force only after the Deepavali and Rajyotsava celebrations. We will insist that these measures be enforced in the first week of November.”

He also said that BESCOM would meet with the shop owners’ association shortly.
