BANGALORE: The High Court of Karnataka on Thursday directed the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) to clear civic amenity sites of encroachments in J P Nagar II Stage.

Hearing a public interest petition filed by M Cheluvaiah and others, a division bench headed by Chief Justice P D Dinakaran ordered the BDA to take action against the encroachers as per the law.

The petitioners' counsel argued that lands bearing survey number 90/1 and 90/2 in Narayanappashetty Palya and 21/6 and 21/7 of Sarakki Agrahara were earmarked for a park by the BDA.

Yet, some persons had illegally occupied the lands and were even constructing small houses on them.

It was also pointed out that earlier a complaint had been filed with the Lokayukta in response to which the BDA had promised to take action against the encroachments. Yet, no action had been taken till now.
