IT park at Devanahalli gets approval by Govt
DH News Service, Bangalore:
The State Government has approved setting up an IT park under public private partnership at Devanahalli near Bangalore, Minister for IT and BT Katta Subramanya Naidu said on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters, he said Bangalore-based Jain Heights is setting up the IT park on its own in 27 acres land. It will be based on walk-to-work concept. The Government will only give necessary clearance and help market the space, he added.
The IT park will be suitable for small and medium investors and it will be set up in 20 months’ time. The company is going to invest an estimated Rs 75 crore.
Besides, work on setting up IT parks in Shimoga, Mysore, Mangalore, Hubli-Dharwad and Gulbarga will start by this year end. Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa will lay the foundation stone for Shimoga IT park on November 1. All these IT parks will be developed by State-owned Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Limited (KEONICS), the Minister added.
IT, BT authority
The Government has decided to set up a separate Authority for IT and BT. The Authority, once in place, will help investors get necessary approvals from various departments of the Government to invest in the State. Investors in IT and BT sector need not go to High Level Clearance Committee to get the approval, Naidu said.
The department of IT and BT has asked the Law department to draft a bill in this regard and it is likely to be passed in the next session of the State Legislature.
‘IT FIRMS SAFE’
Bangalore IT companies are not affected by global economic meltdown, according to the IT and BT Minister. To a certain extent BPOs may have been affected. But not IT companies.
He, however, said he does not have figures to elaborate it
