Bangalore: A commitment to ensure sustained tree growth in Bangalore was made on Tuesday by various agencies — public and private. On a day-long plantation drive, 100 saplings were planted on Outer Ring Road.
A joint initiative of software firm Qwest, BBMP and Bangalore Environment Trust (BET), the event was an attempt to increase the city’s depleting green cover.
Zafar Futehally, founder trustee of BET and ornithologist, inaugurated the event. Going by the motto ‘I stand for Green’, the participants were involved right from digging of the pits to placing of ‘tree guards’ near their offices.
According to figures, less than 7% of Bangalore is under tree cover. More than 10,000 trees have been cut for various flyovers and road-widening projects. Further, another 40,000 trees are expected to be felled in the near future for developmental work.

This has been an excellent drive by qwest bangalore. So far Qwest was known for it's spirit of services to it's customers, now it has proved that qwest has the true spirit of service for the citizens as well. It's selfless act and I truely am proud to be a qwestian.
