Discussions held at ABIDe meetings are inching towards the preparation of an elaborate blueprint for Plan Bengaluru 2020 .

The document, prepared by Member of Parliament and convener of the Task Force R. Chandrashekar, aims at improving basic amenities like road network, traffic, transportation, water supply, sanitation, power, airport and rail connectivity, and policing to transform Bengaluru into a city of the future.

“Bengaluru must be transformed into the preferred metropolis of India, and serve as a gateway for inve stment in the state,” says Mr Chandrashekar.

The task force points out that there is no single blueprint to manage the city’s growth and its services, although its population is expected to touch 160 lakh by 2020. Its immediate plan addresses basic problems in 2008-09, the medium term plan applies to the years between 2008 and 2012 and the long term plan to the period from 2008 to 2020. Various agencies like BBMP, BMTC, BDA, KSRTC, Namma Metro, and High Speed Rail Link have been directed to provide vision documents to the Task Force which will be eventually integrated. The task force has served an ultimatum for completion of certain projects which have been delayed inordinately. It has directed that the Outer Ring Road be made signal free by March 2010 and an underpass at Magadi Road Chord Road junction at Chandra Layout be completed by the end of November. The Traffic Transit and Transportation Management Centre at Jayanagar has been given January 1, 2009 as its target deadline. It has laid down that all 55 RTOs be computerised to regularise tax collection. Bengalureans with domain expertise and experience have been invited to apply for voluntary, part-time or a full time jobs with ABIDe and to send their resumes to plan2020@bengaluruvedike.org.
