There is no road to this overbridge

There is no road to this overbridge

BANGALORE: Protracted delays over the construction of the overbridges and flyovers are commonplace in Bangalore. But here is a case where an overbridge is ready but work on the approach road is yet to begin.

The railway overbridge at Mathikere was completed after a delay of 10 months. What should have come as a relief to users now has become a source of frustration because the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has not been able so far to get people to vacate houses and shops that have to be demolished before the approach road can be built. There are legal hurdles to be overcome before that can be done.

In fact, the BBMP is yet to finalise the location where those displaced by the project will be rehabilitated.

“BBMP officials should have put the plan in place even as the project was moving at a snail’s pace for almost three years,” said Nanjunda Swamy B., a resident of Mathikere.

When contacted, BBMP officials said the process of identifying a site to rehabilitate the displaced people was under way and that they were confident the process would be completed within a month.
