Bangalore: Many roads were flooded on Tuesday morning following heavy downpour which dampened the spirit of those celebrating Gowri festival.

The rain also brought down a few trees and branches in Sanjaynagar, Sadashivnagar and Subramanyapura. People had to struggle to clear rainwater that entered their houses in Rajarajeswarinagar, Nagarbhavi and Odeyarahalli.

Meanwhile, a pedestrian underpass, which is under construction near K.R Market, was submerged. Most of the residents of Sathya Layout, Vaddarapalya, Byraweshwaranagar and surrounding areas, who had vacated after rainwater entered their houses, returned on Monday and Tuesday. Rainwater entered some houses in Dhanalakshmi Layout in Kodigehali, Sahakaranagar F Block, below Kino theatre railway overbridge, Marappa Layout in Rajarajeshwarinagar. The city received 65 mm of rain during last 24 hours, according to the India Meteorology Department.

Transport Minister R. Ashok visited rain-affected areas in Bhuvaneshwarnagar and Ittamadu on Tuesday. He inspected two storm water drains that have been blocked and said the blockades would be removed by October.
