Life for residents of the posh Dollars Colony and RVM 2nd Stage is returning to normalcy after two days of hardship caused by heavy rain. This is not because of timely action by civic agencies in the city, but because there was little rain on Monday.

But the residents are apprehensive since the met department has forecast that rainfall is likely to continue in the city since the state is witnessing break-monsoon conditions.

“There is some relief after BBMP pumped out the rainwater that inundated our houses. The situation was very bad, but we are still worried. Only temporary measures have been taken. Relief is of little use because we are going to face the same problems whenever there is heavy downpour. What is needed is a permanent solution,” said Renuka, a resident.

Most of the residents of these areas are still in shock after Sunday’s torrential rain swamped their neighbourhoods and flooded their houses. “We don’t know how to face the rain in the coming days. There was no rain today but we cannot relax. We have a twomonth-old baby and we are worried about water-borne diseases,” said Shrinivas, another resident.

The situation was the same in other surrounding areas. Residents echoed one plea: For BBMP to find long standing solution to their problems.
