BANGALORE: In an effort to tackle garbage disposal problem more effectively, the Bruhut Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) recently held a meeting to chalk out measures to bring in a transparent and permanent system.
According to sources, the BBMP will have garbage segregation points at the zonal level. The BBMP will identify about 70 locations across the city. After segregation, the garbage will be treated and turned into organic manure in the BBMP set up plant.
''As the discussion is in its initial stage, it is difficult to comment on further details of the plant and other proposals,'' said an official. However, the manure treated from this plant is expected to be used in the BBMP maintained garden and park area spreading across 4,000 acres in the city.
''The idea is to segregate the garbage at local level itself. If the BBMP segregates garbage at these points, disposal will be easier,'' said BBMP sources. At present, the BBMP is facing several problems from garbage contractors and if the discussed measures are worked out, the BBMP could put an end to the problem. If segregation takes place near the garbage originating point then half of the problem of garbage disposal will be reduced.
