Stir hits BPOs, call centres

Private transportation facilities of thousands of staffers of call centres and BPOs was affected on Monday, as about 75,000 cabs including cars and mini-vans stayed off the roads.


The Karnataka State Vehicle Drivers Union, representing call centre, IT and BT cab drivers that had called the strike to demand proper remuneration, rest and food facilities is likely to call off their stir on Tuesday.

State president of the union, Nanjundaswamy said the union is holding talks with transport operators and contractors, who outsource the job of drivers to resolve the issue of better pay and facilities. Many call centres and BPOs had made alternative arrangements including BMTC buses to make do with the stir. However, many employees had a tough time reaching their destinations. Police said there was some tension in Electronics City, however, there were no reports of untoward incidents
