BANGALORE: Transport Minister R Ashok on Saturday, announced that seven new BMTC Traffic and Transit Management Centres would be constructed across the city at a cost of Rs 408 crore under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewable Mission.

The BMTC had planned 45 TTMCs as part of the urban infrastructure development incorporated in the Traffic and Transportation Plan for Bangalore, of which 10 have been approved by the JNNURM. The tenders would be floated shortly for constructing TTMCs at Vijayanagar, Banashankari, Koramangala, Shantinagar, ITPL, Yeshwanthpur and Kengeri.

In addition, two more TTMCs would be constructed at Bannerghatta and Domlur after procuring the land from BBMP and Forest Departments. Construction of one TTMC has already begun in Jayanagar.

Speaking to the media, he said: “The Jayanagar TTMC, which started as a pilot project, would be completed by March.” The Jayanagar TTMC would have four floors and the BMTC is negotiating with the BBMP to link the Jayanagar Shopping complex with the TTMC through an overhead bridge, making it easier for traffic movement.

The overhead bridge will also have car parking facilities. If the BBMP agrees to the BMTC’s proposal, the car parking facility would be the first of its kind in the city, the minister said. He said that seven TTMCs would be constructed in Mysore at the cost of Rs 100 crore.
