Ministers check ground situation
TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Bangalore: To check the situation on the ground, ministers R Ashok and Suresh Kumar visited Puttenahalli, Bhadrappa Colony, Silk Board junction and areas near Hebbal lake on Monday. They have set up teams to visit flooded areas and come up with solutions.
The number of areas that have been flooded due to rain this year has decreased to 16, mainly because of permanent works undertaken in various areas. Ashok said that flooding was less in many areas due to precautionary measures being undertaken. Following the visits, the city has been divided into eight zones which will have control rooms, apart from a central control room at BBMP. These will be manned 24/7 by a staff of 30 with an assistant executive engineer in charge. The squad that has been constituted to monitor the situation will be functional till December.
Ashok added that he will himself sit and attend to complaints if floods increase. All arrangements have been made to handle cases of tree-falling, blocked drains and the like that might follow a heavy downpour. CM B S Yeddyurappa is likely to visit Puttenahalli on Tuesday. The squad will also visit Banashankari and Mysore Road.
A meeting of MLAs has been called on Tuesday. If floods take a turn for the worse, an umbrella team that would constitute the BWSSB, KPTC and other civic bodies would be set up to handle the situation. Ashok proposed to call a meeting of all the chiefs of such bodies if the situation threatened to get out of hand.
