Hi-tech baggage solutions at BIA

Hi-tech baggage solutions at BIA
S Praveen Dhaneshkar, DH News Service, Bangalore:
While the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has been entrusted the job of providing security ranging from manning the entry/exit points to guarding the airport watch towers at Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) in Devanahalli, the airport operator has installed the state-of-the art baggage screening system...

BIAL officials told Deccan Herald that the first-ever integrated passenger-baggage reconciliation system to go live at an Indian airport has been deployed by the Geneva based SITA (Specialists in Air Transport Communications and IT) at BIA.

The system is equipped to track baggage in 220 countries and it adopts an integrated, end-to-end baggage reconciliation system which combines bar codes and wireless local area network (WLAN) to ensure that baggage reaches its destination on time.

SITA system at BIA comprises two modules, Bag Manager and Bag Message.

SITA’s Bag Manager while providing a real-time baggage-management solution, interfaces with check-in and baggage sorting systems, and integrates with flight information systems for any latest updates on aircraft loading.

Bag Manager and Bag Message are also linked to high-tech security systems to verify the screening of bags by explosive detection systems and other devices.

Bag Manager:

*Uses a combination of powerful wireless hand-held scanning devices that ensure the right bag travels on the right flight, and that the passenger who owns the bag is on the same flight

*Identifies and unloads the bags of any passenger that fails to board the flight

*Manages baggage handing, both within an airport and across multiple airports

*Tracks the movement of passenger baggage, from check-in to flight departure and beyond

*Monitors baggage events as bags move from airport to airport worldwide

Bag Message:

*Enables airport baggage systems to exchange International Air Transport Association (IATA) standard baggage messages with an unlimited number of airline Departure Control Systems (DCS)

*Improves air-passenger service by ensuring that correct information is provided to those systems needing it in a timely manner

*Decreases airline and airport costs as a result of fewer communication circuits required for DCS connections to multiple airports

*Avoids lost baggage blues

Idly sambar dearer!

Why do not they work on the necessary arrangements before opening the airport? Idly sambar for Rs 80!? For Rs 15 bucks you get a couple of nice idlies at a good hotel? More over Rs 1070 for user development fee without any facilities! It sounds ridiculous. Even though HAL airport was small its good.
