Low cost houses, PRR, BMRC on track
Bangalore Development Authority has proposed to build 45,000 flats for the benefit of people belonged to economically weaker sections. Each flat measuring 325sq ft of area would cost around Rs 3 lakh.

The state government has allotted 326 acres that it recovered from encroachers for the project. The authority has to buy the land paying half of the guidance value. Houses to be constructed would be shared on 50 - 50 basis between the authority and the private developer. The project would be completed in three years.

The authority has taken up construction of peripheral ring road of 116 kms in two phases. The first phase of 65 kms connects National Highway 4 and Hosur highway passing intersecting Doddaballapur Road, Bellary Road, Old Madras Road and Sarjapur Road. As much as 1,800 acres of land is required for the eight-lane road project.

The cost of the project is expected to be Rs 3,000 crore including land acquisition cost of Rs 600 crore for phase 1. Global tenders will be floated for the project.

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) has assured Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa that it will implement Reach-1 -- seven kms stretch between Byappanahalli and Chinnaswamy stadium -- as per schedule by December 2010.

BMRC has come under criticism from all quarters that Namma Metro project is not progressing fast. In fact, the State Government in its recent recently transferred its Managing Director V Madhu, who is yet to hand over the office to newly appointed IAS officer Sivasilam.
