Cheques distributed for fire victims

Cheques were distributed to businessmen whose shops were gutted in a major fire mishap in Jayanagar shopping complex recently.

BJP MP Ananth Kumar distributed cheques for Rs 40,000 each to 91 shop owners at a simple function held at the complex on Tuesday evening.

Ananth Kumar said that the State government kept up its promise of giving Rs 50,000 compensation. The government had established a new trend by fulfiling the promise within the shortest possible time, he added.
The Transport Minister R Ashok said that the government would spend Rs 1.5 crore and build new state-of-the-art stalls.

The construction work would begin very soon, he added. Local MLA Vijay Kumar and BBMP officials were present. As many as 91 shops were gutted and materials worth more than four crore destroyed when a major fire broke out on the night of June 13.

The Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa visited the spot and had distributed cheques for Rs 10,000 each to the businessmen the next day.
