Land acquisition for PRR underway
Land acquisition for PRR underway
The PRR is back with the BDA, and land acquisition will be completed in another three to four months. Sai Prasanna reports
Phase I of the Rs 6,000-crore Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) project which was handed over by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) to the National Highway Authorities of India (NHAI) is now back with them. Phase I stretching to 65 km will be taken up first at a cost of Rs 3,000 crores. As of now, land acquisition is going on for the first phase and the Expression of Interest (EOI) will be called for after three to four months. Tenders will be called for after another three months. Phase I is expected to be completed in a span of three to four years.
Highlights of the PRR:
• 100 metre wide dedicated corridor with access-controlled facilities
• Design speed of about 80 to 100 kmph
• Eight-lane divided road with service roads
• Exclusive lanes for Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS)
• Provision for Metro and Mono rail along the central median
• Provision of exclusive corridor for utilities so that there is no need to disturb the utility lines in the event of any need to dig up the roads in future
• 63 cross drainage structures (smaller storm water crossings) identified
• Four minor bridge structures (bigger storm water crossings) proposed
• Box culverts proposed to avoid blockage in the drains as compared to the earlier Humepipe culvert
• Surface drainage facilitated by median drain, drain between the main road and the BRTS lane, and a drain at the end of the service road
