Infrastructure projects for city in progress

Infrastructure projects for city in progress
The BBMP and BDA projects initiated to upgrade connectivity across the city are going on. Sai Prasanna has an update

With the international airport functioning about 35 km away from the city and the daily traffic to and from the city on the rise, infrastructure projects have assumed prime importance on the priority list for the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA).
The key projects that will be completed in the next five months are the widening of the Devanahalli Road (International Airport Road), and grade separators at Sanjaynagar and CBI junctions. The other projects on the anvil are grade separators at Puttenahalli-Ring Road junction (24th Main), Kadirenahalli-Ring Road junction, Hennur-Banaswadi junction leading to Horamavu, Prof CNR Rao Circle, and flyovers at the Agara and Iblur junctions on Outer Ring Road.
The road widening works on the stretch from Minsk Square to Hebbal flyover extending to about 7.4 km is slated to be completed by September end. As of now, from CBI junction to the Hebbal flyover on Bellary Road, six lanes have already been formed. On the right side, most of the work has already been completed. Allied finishing works like fixing curbs, drain, median, and utility duct works are in progress with 50 percent of the work already completed.
On the left side, work is in progress and 50 percent of the utility duct work has also been completed. Work on the service road from the CBI junction to the Sanjaynagar junction is in progress. K S Krishna Reddy, Chief Engineer, Major Roads, BBMP said, "We have planned to complete these projects within the stipulated time but it will be easier to do so if there are no interruptions due to rains." The cost of the project is estimated to come to Rs 14 crores.
The grade separator at CBI junction should be ready by August end. Presently, civil works are in progress with the retaining wall under construction and the formation of the service road. The cost of the project comes to Rs 3.5 crores. The grade separator at the Sanjaynagar junction will be completed by September end. At present, the work on the service road is in progress. The project will cost Rs 2.5 crores. The grade separator work at Puttenahalli-Ring Road junction and Kadirenahalli-Ring Road junction are in progress with excavation work going on. The project cost for the one at Puttenahalli comes to Rs 23 crores and for the Kadirenahalli one, about Rs 28 crores.
The grade separator at Hennur-Banaswadi junction leading to Horamavu, will cost about Rs 25 crores. Presently, the alignment is being decided upon and will take another week for the main work to begin.
All these three projects are slated to be completed by March next year. Work on the grade separator at Prof CNR Rao Circle (in front of Indian Institute of Science) is most likely to begin in the next two weeks. At present, the BBMP is awaiting police approval for the diversion to decide on the alignment. This project will be completed by June next year.
The two flyovers that will be constructed by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) are at the Agara and Iblur junctions on the Outer Ring Road. The cost for both the projects has been estimated to come up to Rs 57 crores. The Agara flyover will come to about 500 metres and the Iblur flyover is about 350 metres. The design speed will be decided according to IRC standards. Only heavy motor vehicles will make use of the flyover and local traffic will use the road below. This has been done to avoid the probability of any accidents. As of now, the work order has already been given to commence the work and survey work is on. Both the flyovers will be completed 18 months from now.
