Elevated corridor projects to ease traffic

Elevated corridor projects to ease traffic
DH News Service, Bangalore:
Bruhat Bangalore Mahangara Palike has proposed two elevated corridor projects for the city. One connects North and South of Bangalore city and the other connects Kodihalli and Kundanahalli in Bangalore East.

The project has been conceived in the wake increasing traffic density in North due to International Airport at Devanahalli.

North-South Corridor
The proposed project connects Madivala in South and Hebbal in North. A detail project report is yet to be prepared to identify location of loops along the corridor. North-South Corridor starting at Madivala in South connects Hebbal covering Minsk Square and Vellar junction.

The Palike has found the project is the only way to provide signal-free movement of traffic between South and North. As the road will be built over existing roads the project does not require land except around Vellar Junction. The road covers Sankey Road, Bellary Road up to Hebbal.

BBMP has proposed to take up project with private participation under Swiss Challenge method. IDEB has taken up the challenge. The private agency has already submitted technical proposal, which is being studied by the Palike’s technical advisory committee. The project is expected to begin in 2009 September.

Under the Swiss Challenge method, the first bidder will be given priority. Those who bid later on will have to counter specifications of the first bidder. The Government will finally chose the best ones and award the project work.

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said the proposed project solves major traffic problems of the city. Automated parking complexes: BBMP has proposed to construct multi-level parking yards under public private partnership at 10 places.

Automated parking at Gandhinagar, Old Central Jail premises, Gandhi Bazar, SP Cross Road, Russell Market will be exclusively for parking.

Parking in front of Surana College, Yelahanka market place, near RTO in Yelahanka, near Football stadium on Richmond Road, near Ambedkar College in Nagarabavi will be parking with commercial establishments.
