BIA to house CISF barrack

BIA to house CISF barrack
DH News Service, Bangalore:
With ground issues and operations at the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) gradually settling down, the airport operator has now begun to accord priority to completion of key infrastructure and logistical issues.

BIA officials told Deccan Herald that an exclusive barrack to cater to the accommodation of the 1,000 plus personnel of the CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) will be constructed soon.

“Currently, CISF personnel are residing in rented accommodation, paid for by BIAL. This accommodation is for jawans and officers. In addition, BIAL is also building barracks for CISF personnel for emergency situations. These barracks will be ready by the end of this month,” official sources said.

As a long-term measure, BIAL will purchase land from the State Government to construct permanent housing for the CISF personnel. This facility will accommodate 1,100 CISF personnel and their families. Separate housing facilities will be provided for men and women, and another facility for officers. There will also be a parade ground and provision stores. Cost estimates for this project are on.

Confirming this development, a high ranking CISF officer said a 6.5 acre plot with all modern amenities will be constructed.

“We are gradually settling down. Security is upto the mark. In our talks with BIA, they have confirmed that priority on completion of ground infrastructure for staff will be looked into,” he explained.

Constant tab

Meanwhile, following the first ever detection of a fake passport holder at BIA, airport sources said personnel from police, immigration, customs, state intelligence and RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) are keeping a constant tab on the movement of all people at BIA.

“Personnel posted at all 53 common use check-in counters and 18 common use self-service (CUSS) enabled self check-in kiosks at BIA are observing every detail by the second,” sources said.

The Common Use Check-in counters allow optimal use of available airport infrastructure. No airline has dedicated counters, as seen in other airports across the country.

Here, if a flight is taking off at a particular time, the airline occupies a certain number of counters for that particular flight. Once the flight’s check-in process is completed, the airline leaves the counters for the next airline to carry out their check in process.

Self service counters

This is a shared kiosk offering convenient passenger services like check-in, ticketing, baggage tracking and other allied services, which can be performed by the passengers themselves. This facility provides the passengers with a convenient and direct interface with the airline system, whilst allowing multiple airlines to maintain branding and functionality.

Budget cafeteria

An airport staff canteen where prices start at Rs 20 have become functional. The staff also have the option of eating at other eateries like Coffee, Katti Zone, Gangotri, Subway, Baskin Robbins and Nukkad.
“Additionally, by the next 7 to 10 days, a cafe will be ready at the parking area. This cafe will serve meals priced between Rs 10 and Rs 20 only,” officials said.
