Ashok, Katta in charge of City

Ashok, Katta in charge of City
DH News Service, Bangalore:
A day after allocating the portfolios, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa appointed 26 ministers in charge of 29 districts.

Interestingly, the CM, who has kept the Urban Development Ministry under his purview, has put two ministers to take charge of Bangalore City and one for Bangalore Rural district.

Of the six independent MLAs, five have made it to the Cabinet, but none have been made district in-charge ministers. District in-charge ministers are considered as ‘de facto CMs’ of the districts which they head but it is not a Constitutional post.

Transport Minister R Ashok is in charge of 14 Southern Assembly constituencies of Bangalore City, while an equal number of Bangalore Northern Assembly constituencies comes under the purview of Katta Subramanya Naidu, who is also the Excise and IT minister.

This is the first time two ministers are in charge of Bangalore City.

BBMP elections

Sources in the BJP said that as the elections to the BBMP will be inevitable in the months to come, it was decided that two senior ministers take charge of Bangalore City. The City, which earlier had 12 Assembly constituencies, now has 28, after the delimitation process.

Labour Minister B N Bacche Gowda, who joined the BJP just months before the Assembly elections, will take control of Bangalore rural district.

He represents Hoskote assembly constituency in the Assembly.
