Bad roads hit people
Untarred roads, heavy traffic flow, unrepaired drainage system form the major portion of civic woes.

No MLA visit to Layout

Kumaraswamy Layout BDA 2nd Stage was formed by the BDA in 1980. Even after 25 years we were not able to get good roads, as the area was under the Rajarajeshwari Nagar CMC. Also, none of the people’s representatives visit our area. In the recent elections all the candidates had promised to provide better roads and drainage system but still nothing has happened.

Recently, some work was done on the roads in Chandranagar, BDA 1st Stage. But just after one spell of rain everything was washed away. Now the status of the road remains the same. Also, three roads in our area are untarred. Moreover, what is the basis on which the contract is awarded.

Our newly elected MLA is still busy with his birthday celebrations and does not have time to visit our locality.
Though a lot of apartments have come up in the area, the drainage system which is more than 20 years old remains unrepaired. When it rains, the manhole gets blocked and affects the water flow. The drain water then flows into our houses. Though I had requested the junior engineer of BWSSB to have a look nothing has happened yet.

Ease traffic flow

The entire stretch of Ramamurthy Nagar main road and the adjoining road leading to R K apartment starting from the ring road junction have not been asphalted. This is causing a lot of problem for motorists as there is heavy traffic flow on these roads heading towards KR Puram.

Besides, a lot of apartments and residential layouts have come up in this part of the locality. Though every year the corporation collects tax, the roads remain untarred. I hope the authorities concerned are informed about the situation through the media and take immediate action.

Further, I request the government to recruit more traffic controllers and post them at each junction in the city, in addition to creating infrastructure facilities.

We have a large number of unemployed youth in the State, who can be gainfully employed in this scheme. Also, possibilities of introducing one-way at congested junctions have to be explored to ease the traffic flow.

Complaints unheard

Narasimaiah Block, Chikkanna Layout in Ward No 95 have not been tarred since it was incorporated into the BBMP. Though several complaints have been made nothing has been done so far. The situation is worsened during the rainy season, as it is impossible to walk on these roads.

No record of tarring

Walton Road in Shantalanagar is in a very bad condition. It has not been asphalted for over 28 years. I had written to the Assistant Executive Engineer, Richmond Town, under the RTI Act, seeking information about when the road was last asphalted. I was surprised to receive a letter from the Executive Engineer, Shantinagar 2 Division, informing me that they have no earlier records of asphalting Walton Road.

Subsequently, whenever I enquired about the matter, I was told that the road would be asphalted soon. But no action has been taken so far.

It is my request that the road be asphalted at the earliest because it is in a deplorable condition. It is surprising that although Lavelle road and its cross roads are asphalted regularly, Walton Road has not been attended to for over 28 years. It is really pathetic to have a road in such a state, particularly in an area declared as the Central Business District.
