'Stir against heavy traffic flow'

'Stir against heavy traffic flow'
DH News Service, Bangalore:
Residents of R V Layout located parallel to the newly-built BDA surface pass on Thursday staged a demonstration protesting against the heavy flow of traffic on the 1st Main Road in R V Layout.

Following the inauguration of the surface pass on Wednesday, all vehicles coming from Mount Carmel side pass through the element box under the surface pass and directly enter the R V Layout.

The residents’ grouse is that such a heavy flow of traffic through the layout has distrubed the peace of the locality and increased pollution.

The residents met the ACP, Traffic (Central) K Eshwar Prasad, and demanded that the traffic be re-routed. They told him that the locality, which was peaceful all these years, could not withstand the heavy load all of a sudden.
“I have told them it will take some time to streamline the traffic flow. The surface pass was inaugurated only on Wednesday evening, amidst heavy rain and we are doing our best to ensure a smooth flow,” Prasad told Deccan Herald.

“The residents believed the road was meant only for the vehicles of the 100 houses in the layout as there was no flyover or underpass here before. They will have to bear the traffic now as the vehicles have to pass through the road,” he said.

He said he had asked the residents to come out with an alternative. “We can discuss the feasibility of their proposal and also think if we have any other alternative in coordination with the BBMP officials,” he added.

Other hurdles
That apart, residents of Vyalikaval and Kumara Park (West) are upset that the pedestrian crossing is not allowed at an appropriate place.

“The pedestrian crossing should have been near the bus-stop just before the Cauvery junction. What is the use of having one just near the surface pass,” Lakshmikanth, a resident of Vyalikaval said.

He pointed out that the officials had not provided a turn for vehicles coming through the surface pass and going towards Palace Guttahalli.

“People have to take a turn just before the surface pass and go via BDA and Vyalikaval to reach Guttahalli. Vehicles coming from Guttahalli and Sheshadripuram towards Mount Carmel or Raj Bhavan have to pass through the Cauvery underpass and take a right turn. This reveals improper planning and designing,” he said.
