LONG-AWAITED ROAD FINALLY COMES TO A PASS

LONG-AWAITED ROAD FINALLY COMES TO A PASS

READY FOR USE:

The Malleswaram underpass seems to be ready at last. The road has been neatly laid for vehicles to ply on, with no construction activity in the area. But when will it be inaugurated? After encountering many hurdles along the way, including questions over alignment, appropriateness and its utility in easing congestion, the underpass has been completed after two-and-a-half-years. The foundation stone was laid in November 2005, but the green signal came only in May 2006, and work began a month later. However, construction work was stalled many a time owing to political factors, and recommenced only in December 2006. By May 2007, work on Sampige Road was completed and the road was thrown open for motorists. Now, the underpass is ready and the road tarred. With elections due to be completed in the next couple of weeks and a new government expected to be in place soon after, the underpass could be opened in a month
