Byappanahalli: Metro on time
By S Praveen Dhaneshkar,DHNS,Bangalore:
Sources in BMRCL told Deccan Herald that the state-of-the-art Byappanahalli station would be a terminal station, located between Old Madras road and the railway station at Byappanahalli.
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), keen to have the train on track by the 2010-11 deadline, has completed the design process for the Byappanahalli station, a major public transport hub in the eastern part of the City.
With this, the BMRCL has completed the design process of all stations in Reach One. The construction tender for the project will be called on May 25.
The selection process will be completed within two months from that date, followed by the laying of its foundation stone. The estimated cost of the station is Rs 25 crore.
Sources in BMRCL told Deccan Herald that the state-of-the-art Byappanahalli station would be a terminal station, located between Old Madras road and the railway station at Byappanahalli.
“We have finalised the design of the station. The selected bidder will construct it as per the concept. It will be a major traffic integration area, with connectivity to BMTC and inter-state KSRTC buses. With station construction contractors short listed after receiving tenders, the offer for construction of 4 stations (2 stations in each package) in Reach-1 have been received and evaluated,” they said.
BMRCL will also issue tenders for the construction of the stations between Reach 2 and Reach 4 in the last week of May.
The sources added that the construction of the MG Road stations at Plaza theatre and Trinity Circle junctions will be taken up later, as the issue is at present before the court with the owners challenging the acquisition of their land for the same in the High Court.
The detailed design consultants for stations in Reaches 2, 3 and 4 have also been appointed.
