BBMP gearing up to tackle rain

BBMP gearing up to tackle rain
Bangalore, DHNS:
With predictions of an early monsoon, Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is gearing up to deal with rain-related emergencies.

BBMP Commissioner S Subramanya told Deccan Herald that a contingency plan is already in place to tackle rain. He said problems in most of the identified low-lying areas in the city were being attended to, to prevent inundation and water logging.

“Encroachments along the drains of four valleys - Vrishabhavathi, Challaghatta, Koramangala and Hebbal - are being cleared to ensure there is no overflowing,” he said. The Commissioner said BBMP had taken up work on clearing blockages in drains of Puttenahalli, Nayandahalli, Madivala and Bhadrappa Layout on a priority basis. “We have attended to problems in other low-lying areas as well,” he said.

“A new canal has been constructed near Central Silk Board. Work in Nayandahalli, Ilyasnagar and Bhadrapa Layout is almost over,” he added. Control rooms have been equipped with material to pump water from flooded houses.

Teams from Fire Force, BESCOM and BWSSB will assist Palike officials. A special official has been deployed in every vulnerable area to oversee work, he said.

He said the Palike would do all that is possible to ensure citizens are not put to hardship.
