Walk for clean Lalbagh

Walk for clean Lalbagh
Bangalore, dhns:

Techies, NGOs and thousands of volunteers gathered at the Lalbagh botanical garden early in the morning, to clean the place and make it plastic free, on Sunday, as a response to the call by Civil Defence wardens, Art of Living Foundation, Horticulture Department and Karnataka State Pollution Control Board.

The walkathon which began from Vidhana Soudha was flagged off by Vatsala Vatsa, Additional Chief Secretary, in the presence of Dr Sharath Chandra, Chairman, KSPCB and Jija Hari Singh DGP, Home Guards, Director Civil Defence.

People who had gathered at the garden sported placards displaying messages to keep the city green. Several vintage cars took to the street with green and clean messages.

On reaching Lalbagh they were divided into tiny groups and were allocated the responsibility of a particular plot. The job was completed within an hour much to the happiness of the organisers. Jija Harisingh said that her department will continue the work for few more weeks.

“The job is not yet over and we intend to continue this for few more weeks, so that the visitors are made aware of this and take up the cleanliness programme on their own,” she said.
