Walk for a greener city
DH News Service,Bangalore:

To ensure a cleaner and greener Bangalore, the Civil Defence wardens, Art of Living foundation (AOL), Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and Horticulture Department have come forward to launch a unique Green code movement.
Speaking to reporters, Jija Madhavan Harisingh, DGP, Home Guards, said that the movement ‘Hasiru Kattu,’ is an effort to bring people, who care for Bangalore and to preserve and nurture the environment of the City. “We want to bring together the people who care for the City and who will assemble at Lalbagh to clean up the huge patch of garden. We hope to get at least 3,000 volunteers for this,” she said.
“It is a beginning and later we will extend it to other parts of the City to ensure a green and healthy City,” she added.
When asked why Lalbagh was chosen, she said that the place being a heritage garden and first choice for tourists definitely needed first attention.
Shashikanth of AOL said that the volunteers who arrive at the Lalbagh after a run will be lead by about 500 volunteers, who have been trained and acquainted with the place there. “ The entire Lalbagh has been divided into 100 units where the volunteers will be divided equally to clean up the place. Our trained volunteers will lead them into cleaning,” he explained.
The month-long programme will begin with a walkathon and a vintage car rally from Vidhan Soudha. Several corporate sectors, NGOs and defence units like Madras Engineering regiment will participate in the walk.
