Mumbai-based V-Link Taxis Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of V-Link Travel Solutions Pvt Ltd, a metered taxi operator, today announced the launch of ‘Meru’, a metered radio taxi service in Bangalore.

The company, which has already launched its premium metered taxi services in Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad, will press into service around 500 taxis in Bangalore, 400 of them will be dedicated to airport passenger services for the new Bangalore International Airport. Another 100 cabs will be deployed for the city commuters.

Speaking at the launch, Joe Mathew, Regional Manager, V-Links Taxis, said their taxis are air conditioned and have GPS-based dispatch technology.

The customers can call a taxi at 44224422 and the technology enabling this service locates a cab nearest to the customers and dispatches it in real time.

Meru cabs are priced at Rs 15 per km as prescribed by the government of Karnataka for the city commuters.

In February this year, V-Link Taxis bagged the contract for new international airport in Bangalore to deploy its taxi services, which will be used both at the airport as well as within the city giving a jump start to taxi operations in Bangalore.

Mathew said customers can avail of multiple options to get the Meru cab service, including dialing into 44224422, or send an SMS to 57575 or by making a web request at www.merucabs.com. V-Link also offers an advance booking system for Meru which allows a customer to book a cab over the phone or on the net in advance at their desired location from anywhere within Bangalore city.

V-Link’s technology also ensures that there is a responsive “Lost and Found” tracking system in place so that any item left behind inadvertently by the customers in a Meru cab can be traced to the vehicle.
