Bangalore, Apr 24: The IT city would soon have a set of new rules to penalise littering the streets, urinating in public and wasting water. Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has finalised penalties and identified the agency to impose the new law.
BBMP chief medical officer Dr L T Gayathri told this website's newspaper that the new law would be enforced once the election work is complete.
“They were supposed to have come into effect from May 1 but the officers are busy with election work hence the delay,” she said.
Garbage bins are back
A few years ago, the city had withdrawn all garbage bins in favour of door-to-door collection of waste. This has increased littering on the roadside.
Now, BBMP has decided to introduce bins on all arterial roads. Three bins shall be placed every 100 metres of road. Of the three, one would be designated for bio-degradable waste, another for waste paper and one more for inert materials.
The bins would be sponsored by advertising agencies. All bus stands would also be provided with three bins each on the above lines.
