BANGALORE: Following transfer of works to National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) would commence acquisition of land for construction of Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) soon.

For, the government is expected to approve the final notification for acquisition of land to initiate works on the first phase of the PRR.

Once the acquisition is completed, the PRR would take another 20 months to see light of the day.

The phase-1 of the PRR is East-North corridor comprising a 65-km stretch from Tumkur road to Hosur road connecting Bellary road, Old Madras road, Varthur road and Sarjapura road.

The phase-2, spread across 51-km, will connect Bangalore South to the West.

It will take another couple of years to materialise as the preliminary notification is still underway.

This stretch will cross Kanakapura Road, Mysore Road and Magadi Road.

The phase-1 of the PRR will not only provide seamless connectivity to BIAL, but also make commuting easy for all.

Once PRR is constructed, trucks plying on ORR will be shifted to the PRR ensuring a break-free smooth ride.

Speaking to this website’s newspaper, Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) Engineer Member V N Nayak said that once government approves the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and final notification of the phase-1, future works will commence.

The cost of constructing the phase-1 of the PRR is estimated to be Rs 3,000 crore, including land acquisition. The total cost of the PRR project is around Rs 3,600 crore.

The development agency was also in talks with the BBMP, BESCOM, BWSSB, traffic police, railways and state Forest Department.

Regarding the civic agencies, the department awaits shifting of basic connections like sewerage and electric lines.

Talks with the railways and state Forest Department are on for constructing RuBs, RoBs or deviating the route from the original plan ensuring smooth ride to commuters.

The entire PRR would be a toll road and NHAI is exploring PPP models to recover the cost.
