Bangalore City Police will soon install state-of-the-art automated signals at 204 traffic junctions in the City, to ease traffic woes. The entire project is expected to cost the department Rs ten crore.

The police, who have installed surveillance cameras at 40 different places through BSNL broadband connectivity to temporary TTMC’s (Traffic Transit Management Centre) and Black Berry simputers, have decided to purchase the interceptor vehicles.

Addressing reporters hereon Saturday, Mr Praveen Sood, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic and Security) said the decision was part of the B-TRAC initiative to offer practical solutions to ease the City’s traffic woes.

“As many as 180 traffic junctions already have automated signals. 204 junctions are yet to be installed with signals. BE has been approached to provide these signals at a cost of Rs 10 crore,” Mr Sood said.

Other projects include construction of a traffic management centre at a cost of Rs 12 crore under the B-TRAC project.

This includes construction of a seven storey structure at the premises of the DCP, Traffic (East). The work that has been entrusted to the State Police Housing Corporation is expected to begin soon.
