Union opposes new auto fares
Bangalore,DHNS:

The Autorickshaw Driver’s Union (ARDU), affiliated to the CITU staged a dharna in front of the Rajajinagar Regional Transport Office (RTO) on Tuesday to oppose the revised minimum fares introduced by the RTA (Bangalore Urban).

About 200 automen led by their president Puttalingaiah submitted a memorandum to the RTO asking for a relook into their demands.

“We are unhappy with the revised fare issued by the RTA. It has been done arbitrarily and is against the interest of autodrivers and their welfare. On Monday, we staged a protest at tJayanagar RTO. We will submit a memorandum to all ten RTOs” said Mr Puttalingaiah.

The ARDU has also demanded that the RTA give a fresh look into the issue of auto fares and fix the per km fare at Rs 8 and Rs 12 for every 1.5 km thereafter.

Other demands include introduction of ESI/PF benefits and a halt to issue of fresh permits to new autorickshaws.
