BANGALORE: Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike should not take up any more ‘instant’ underpasses in the near future and wait and see how the one near Cauvery Junction works, said Chairman of Legislative Council B K Chandrashekar.

The Palike should be cautious in making statements and take public opinion into account while taking up infrastructure projects. The public are not fools, he said.

He visited the ongoing work of the 'instant' underpass near Cauvery Junction on Tuesday, following complaints from motorists that the project was of no use and traffic was thrown out of gear.

He said that the Palike had erred in not holding public consultations on the project. The civic body should offer information to the public on a day-to-day basis.

“The media has to play a pro-active role in informing the public about the merits and demerits of the project. The Palike should not have promised the public that it would complete the project in 72 hours,” he said.

Govt failure:

The government has failed to provide good connectivity to the new international airport, said Chandrashekar.

“The airport has been under construction for the last three years and by now the government should have completed all expressways to the new airport,” he said.

HAL airport for domestic traffic:

He said that the HAL airport should be used for domestic traffic as Devanahalli airport was too far and not every one could afford the cost of travel to it.

“South Bangalore travellers would find it most cumbersome to reach Devanahalli airport,” he Said.
