NICE petitions Court against grant of land for national highway High Court Round-Up

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Monday adjourned a petition by Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise Limited (NICE) challenging a notification for acquisition of land in Bangalore north for widening the national highway.

In its petition, NICE said it wanted the land at Madavara village in Bangalore north for constructing ramps to the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor Project and also for creating infrastructure for the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC).

NICE said the exhibition centre is part of the corridor project and that it had sought land at the village for vehicle parking. It said the centre would be open 100 days in a year and there would be a requirement for parking of 25,000 to 30,000 cars on land adjoining the centre.

It said the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) had issued a notification for acquiring the land for widening NH 4. It said it would be difficult to provide infrastructural facilities to the centre if the land was acquired by the KIADB.

NICE urged the court to quash the notification.
