Officials swindle public money duplicating works

Officials swindle public money duplicating works
Bangalore, DHNS:
Want to swindle public money? Take up same work twice under different scheme and show expenditure twice - this is what some officers of BBMP seem to have adopted.

Joint Commissioner of Bommanahalli took up drinking water related works using funds of Rs 2.5 crore. As per Palike records, works worth Rs 1.80 crore have been completed already.

Surprisingly, the Palike has taken up 85 works which were already done in the new programme of works prepared for utilisation of Rs 51 crore released for each zone. Former Mayor P R Ramesh alleged that officers of Bommanahalli zone have misused money close to Rs 1.35 crore by duplicating works. He said he will submit a complaint to Lokayukta and demand detail inquiry into works.

Enter Ganapatipura in Bommanahalli zone. Without your knowledge, you will run away from the area due to the stench. For the last one month, residents are facing this ordeal. Yet, the civic agency has remained mum.
Sanitary lines of over six layouts have been connected to Kothanur tank. As there is no easy flow to the tank, the seweage stuck in the area is spreading bad smell across the locality. This came to light when former Mayor P R Ramesh took a group of reporters to Bommanahalli zone on Thursday. Ravi, a resident, said underground drainage lines of Srinidhi layout, New Bank Colony, Old Bank Colony, Chunchanaghatta, Renukamma Nagar and Konanakunte have been connected to Kothanur tank. The locals fear that an epidemic-like situation might break out in the area.
