BANGALORE: The Bangalore Bio-park at the NSS Bhavan of Bangalore University on the Janana Bharathi Campus was inaugurated on Wednesday.

This Park was previously called as the Bio-Diversity Park of Bangalore University.

The ‘International Year of Planet Earth-08’ was also launched at the NSS Bhavan.

N M Venkatachalaiah, former chief justice, on the occasion said: “It is the duty of the present generation to save the mother earth and pass it on to the future generation.”

“Any kind of support required to preserve and develop the Bangalore Bio- Park will be extended by the University.

We should strive to make this park one of the finest hot spots of nature,” said Vice- Chancellor H A Ranganath.

An audio-visual document of draft manual of the Bangalore Bio-Park was also screened at the gathering.

Former vice-chancellor K Siddappa also shared his experiences of converting the barren campus into a ‘green campus’.

Higher Education department secretary Kaushik Mukherjee, International Year of Planet Earth convener Prof T J Renukaprasad, coordinator of Bio-Park S Naraya naswamy, environmentalist A N Yellappa Reddy and were present.
