Vedike continues protest

BANGALORE: Hundreds of people under the banner of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike took out a procession in the city on Wednesday demanding job reservation for Kannadigas in the Railways and scrapping the ongoing recruitment of Group D employees in the Railways.

Nearly 2,500 people led by vedike president T.A. Narayana Gowda, the former minister B.T. Lalitha Naik and MLC Mukyamanthri Chandru marched from the Kempegowda statue in front of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike office.

The protesters, who were on their way to the Raj Bhavan, were stopped by the police near the Palace Road. Later, a delegation of vedike leaders met Governor Rameshwar Thakur and submitted a memorandum.

The vedike has urged the Union Government to reserve jobs for Kannadigas in the Railways in accordance with the recommendations of the Sarojini Mahishi Committee report.

Following the massive procession, traffic was affected for some time in certain parts of the central business district such as Hudson Circle, J.C. Road, Kempegowda Road, Sheshadri Road, Palace Road and adjoining areas.
