BIAL airport ready for 'take-off, begins trials
DH News Service, Bangalore:
The basic trials at the Bangalore International airport in Devanahalli took off on Tuesday with infrastructure facilities, procedures, system and trained staff being put through the first round of test.

BIAL sources said that the basic trials will include testing of facilities at important locations in the airport - like the terminal buildings and other important infrastructure facilities.

“Escalators, elevators, check-in counters, baggage handling areas and systems, equipment, passenger boarding bridges and other airport owned equipment and system will be put to test,” the sources said.

This round of basic trials is the first of the three important trials in the run up to the inauguration of the airport, in March this year. Next in line will be the advanced and integrated trials, before a green signal is given for commercial flight operations at the airport.

Prior to the basic trials, Designated Airport Readiness Experts (AREXs) conducted testing of basic processes at the airport.

Sources said that trials have been conducted on a regular basis for a while now, and will continue for a week or to. They will be followed by advanced trials.

BIAL officials added that the airport rescue and fire-fighting teams are in a high degree of preparedness, and are fit to participate in the basic trials.

Besides the trials, final mechanical and electrical works in the landside office building are nearing completion.
