Mumbai, Jan. 16 Cathay Pacific Airways would be commencing operations from Bangalore from May 1 with Dragon Air, which is a part of the Cathay group.
The Hong Kong-based airline would also be enhancing its operations in and out of India with 23 flights by early June.
Starting February 29, it plans to fly daily flights to Hong Kong from Mumbai and Delhi. Cathay would also start operations from Chennai from June 1.
Currently, Cathay Pacific operates four non-stop direct flights between Hong Kong and Delhi, and four flights to Mumbai routed Hong Kong-Bangkok-Mumbai-Dubai.
The additional flights follow the granting of new rights to Hong Kong carriers under an agreement signed between the city’s and India’s Governments last month.
Dragon Air, a full service carrier became part of the group in 2006.
New Carrier
As regards launching a new carrier in the Indian market instead of expanding Cathay brand to Bangalore, Mr Tom Wright, General Manager, India, Middle East, Africa and Pakistan said, that it was dependant on the route rights, which were granted to Dragon Air.
