Fog cover envelops city

Fog cover envelops city
TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Bangalore: A thick blanket of fog settled over several areas between 5.30 am and 8 am on Monday and visibility — particularly close to the airport — dropped to around 50 m.
Areas close to the airport like HAL, Indiranagar and Marathahalli were affected more than Hoskote, Ulsoor and Hebbal, which are normally hit owing to the presence of water bodies.
Fog occurs when moisture gets converted into water droplets and these hang in the air as particles.
There’s a dip in temperature, particularly in areas close to water bodies which have heavy moisture over them. Fog occurs when temperature falls below
0
dew point — between 8 C and 12 C or lower. The airport has a large lake near it. When moisture above the lake goes up, fog envelops the entire area, experts said.
Met authorities confirmed the fog around the airport was thicker than the one near Hebbal, Ulsoor and Malleswaram. Visibility too was very low at the airport.
The temperature recorded the early morning was low —
0
12.6 C slightly higher than the
0
12.1 C recorded in the last two days.
“Temperatures are known to fall even more, but this didn’t happen on Monday. Fog is accompanied by low temperatures depending on wind conditions and temperature. If steady and cold winds blow, then fog turns cold,’’ weather experts pointed out.
The city is expected to have fog and mist conditions, particularly in the morning.
