Court to BWSSB: if NICE can finish road work, let them do it

Bangalore: The high court on Monday adjourned the hearing of a petition filed by Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE) against BWSSB with regard to shifting of water pipes at four locations to enable NICE to complete work on the Peripheral Ring Road. Justice Anandbyra Reddy adjourned the hearing to January 23.
“We’ve already paid the money, including Rs 77.1 lakh, for temporary shifting of a 1,625-mm diameter water pipe at Channasandra, on Uttarahalli-Kengeri Road. Though the overbridge work is almost complete, BWSSB’s inaction has come in the way to complete work at an intersection. Even at the 100 Ft Ring Road near PES College, the situation is similar as the water pipe is yet to be changed. They’re not doing their work and not allowing us to work either. We have been forced to approach the court,’’ NICE’s counsel said.
“If they (NICE) are ready to undertake these works in a set time frame with the help of a third party, and without affecting the public, why can’t you allow them to do so,’’ the judge asked BWSSB’s counsel before adjourning the hearing.
